Not seeing any fog on the western shore. We are seeing an accident. That one is going to be at 702 at hyde park road. This one a vehicle into a building on taylor avenue at lock raven boulevard. Speeds still great out there on all the main roads, including the beltway and 95. Thats a live look outside at the west side of the beltway at 70. We also have two Eastern Shore School Advisories. Kent county schools are operating oh one hour day, Queen Annes County operating on a 90 minute delay with no morning prek. A high speed chase bringing our nations capitol to a standstill. Now police are trying to figure out what motivated a dental hygienist from connecticut. Derek valcourt caught up with people caught up in the chaos. First here is susan mcginnis. Investigators wearing hazmat suits searched the stamford, connecticut home of the woman police say triggered a democrat make car chase. Police were there to go through that and try to find out what would they learn from her computer, notes or anything else. Something that could give them a window as to a motive. Cbs news has learned the driver was 34yearold miriam kerry. Police shot and killed her outside the u. S. Capitol thursday afternoon. The incident started at the white house where Officials Say kerry struck a barricade with her black inifiniti sedan. She then sped down pennsylvania avenue towards the capitol. Thats where Police Officers thought they had her boxed in but kerry backed up and tried to speed off again. Police opened fire, killing the woman. Officers found a young girl inside the car. The child is approximately a year old and is in Good Condition and in protective custody. Police are still here on capitol hill collecting evidence and investigating what happened. Part of that is determining why police choose to use deadly force to stop the suspect. The United States secret service and capitol Police Officers acted heroically in trying to stop in this suspect from entering security perimeters. Both the white house and u. S. Capitol were put on lock down during the incident. In washington, susan mcginnis, wjz Eyewitness News. One secret Service Officer and a Capitol Police officer are injured because of the incident. Both are said to be in Good Condition and are expected to fully recover. Here is Derek Valcourt who talked with witnesses caught up in the panic yesterday, including so maryland lawmakers. Certainly some tense and scary moments not just for folks inside the capitol but also for the tourist, visitors and people who live near by. The altercation may have been caught on camera. Many in capitol hill couldnt see it, they could only hear it. A large bang. I said was that a car . It was like six shots, pop, pop, pop. Some raced out of their homes after hearing the shots to see what was going on. We were surprised it was so close. David was a block away from where the incident ended. Police ordered him and others back into their homes. A few seconds later i saw a Police Officer kind of hugging a small child taking that child away from the scene. The incident put the entire capitol complex into lock down mode effecting everyone inside, including members of marylands congressional delegation. You lock the doors, turn the lights off. Dutch ruppersberger heard the warning i join the majority leader in expressing our gratitude to the Capitol Police. [applause] maryland congressman danny hoyer led a standing ovation, crediting Capitol Police. We knew we were safe. Its not good for the country to have an event like this. We felt safe. That lock down at the capitol complex lasted about an hour. Then many in congress got back to work arguing about the government shut down. The man who accidentally ran over his grandson at the 4th of july parade in annapolis will not face charges in the incident. 7yearold Kyle Aldridge died after being ran off. He fell off the trailer and fell underneath it. Police say theres no way he could have known what was happening behind him. This morning the cause of a three alarm fire at a Shopping Center in cecil county is still under investigation. Two firefighters are hurt after battling blames at the Northeast Plaza Shopping Center in the town of northeast. It took two and a half hours to get the fire under control. It caused 10 million in damage. An accused multimillionaire drug lord is now behind bars and a black market drug ring is said to be shut down. Illegal drugs, including heroin and cocaine and guns were all available on the online marketplace known as the silk road. The fbi said it shut down the website on wednesday and that 29yearold Ross Ulbricht is the man behind the marketplace. Silk road was set up to be completely anonymous. Ulbricht is also charged here in maryland with ordering the torture and murder of a witness. He faces life in prison. With the end of the summer comes flu season. The first case has now been reported here in maryland. Wjz and mike schuh are live outside the State Office Building complex. Good morning. Reporter good morning. Last year the flu reach ed ed epidemic proportions here in maryland. This year its starting two weeks earlier. The first case of the year is now reported in maryland, a child living in the suburbs who was briefly hospitalized. Its the same strain of flu that killed jalen in 2009. I would never have imaged that something as simple as the flu would have taken my son away from me. The flu reaches epidemic levels here in maryland with 5,600 confirmed cases and more than 3,000 patients hospitalized. Last year was just out of control, the amounts of people we saw with the flu. We werent even screening for the flu, we just knew they had it and treated them. Dr. Franco said he opens it keeps people out of the er this year with the warm weather. With the weather change and hopefully getting the vaccine right this year hopefully well be able to by pass that. By local counties are offering free flu shot clinics. People are taking advantage. People are getting sick and actually dying from it. Its very important that you take care of yourself so that you dont spread it to others too. A vaccine that could prevent tragedy. Com and click on this story. In tennessee seven of the eight People Killed in a fiery bus crash have been identified. Their families notified. Six of those come from the same Baptist Church in north carolina. They were returning from a festival when their bus blew a tire. Two people remain in critical condition. The ntsb is not sending investigating to this crash site because most of them have been furloughed due to the government shut down were told. A hurricane watch extends from louisiana to the florida panhandle. Tropical storm karen is still more than 40 miles south of the Mississippi River with sustained winds of 65 Miles Per Hour. Waves are picking up on the alabama coastline. Turning to sports, the ravens make changes to their offensive line. So by the time the ravens get there they may have a chance of some showers on sunday, 88 degrees. Karen will have left the building and actually the remanence will be heading our way by then. We have to do some small ones and make them like tree hanging or something. Were looking at 10 or so degrees above or normal high today. Our normal high is 71. Weve been at about 84, 85. Were at 57 now in far western maryland. Temperatures in the 60 degree range already. We are within 10 degrees of our normal high. Calm winds around most of the area. Drier conditions in place until now. The humidity levels are going up. A warm front is lifting into the region. Thats keeping the warm air over the mid atlantic. Cold front moving in our general direction. This warm front is the reason we have so much instability around, we have a chance for a shower in the afternoon. This front is going to interact with what will be the remanence of karen. This is going to pick it up, bring it in and out quickly monday into tuesday. We will get the rain from Tropical Storm karen, not the destructive problems. This is what is moving into the region. The warm front is responsible for the shower potential today. It will be more humid today. The front comes through though on the weekend. This will start to drop our temperatures. So by the time we head into next week and the showers start to move in because of karen we will also start to see a drop in the temperatures. The mid 80s today, tomorrow and sunday. The front comes through, the rain and the cooler temperatures take us down into the 70s through the week. Karen currently 60 Miles Per Hour winds, moving northwest at 10 Miles Per Hour. All the models had it moving in this general direction. We will definitely be getting the rain. We will keep an eye on it over the weekend. 6 29 your next high tide. Still no word on funeral arrangements for tom clancy. He died this week after a short illness. Here is mary bubala with more on his strong ties to this city. Tom clancy sold his first book for just 5,000. A review by president reagan propelled the book up the best seller list. He was invited to the white house to meet the president telling denise koch that changed his life. President reagan made my rich. He got red october and read it in two or three days and liked it. Clancy was born and raised in baltimore and even after he rose to fame from his writing those who knew him said he kept a low profile, including sergio valtale who hosted the author on a weekly basis for many years. He was a guest and a friend. We had gone to the same high school and college and in baltimore going to the same High School Counts for something. He was an utter true baltimore man, a true marylander. He loved aldos so much he wrote it in one of his novels. In 2010s dead or alive he let a character eat his favorite meal. He said im going to put you in my next book. He did. Not by name but has seen has his character come in here and eat it. He said clancy did not come into the restaurant for a while and had his driver come by and pick uptake out almost every week. Mary bubala, wjz Eyewitness News. Thank you.
