In custody. Police track down the man wanted for shooting an officer. The surprising place he was discovered. Hello again. Im jessica kartalija. Im don scott. Heres what people are talk talking about today. Breaking news. The search for the man accused of opening fire on a Howard County Police Officer is over. Wjz is live with complete coverage of the capture of stephon prather. Sky eye chopper 13 is over the area where officers found him. First we go to mike schuh with the latest on the manhunt and capture. Reporter good morning. This incident happened just abok away from here. Prather fled into the woods. Its believed he stayed there over night. He emerged from the woods at that tree line and Police Caught him right here. He was captured here, just 50 yards from yesterdays shoot out. At 8 30 this morning freddy pina was first to see him. He looked like the guy that they described on the news. He had two sticks in his hands. Face was covered. Prather was using those two sticks to try to walk with as he head a leg injury. He spotted him here. He told police and they caught up with him about 300 yards down the road. I dont know if they saw him or not. They were coming out saying its him, its him. They stood there for a while and just went after him. Weakened and cold prather gives up without a fight and taken to shock trauma. Clearly he knew the heat was on him because he eventually walked out and surrounded knowing officers surrounded him. He shot a cop. We take that obviously very is s ly in our county. Our investigation is just beginning. Now the same teams which searched for him searched for the gun he allegedly used to shoot steven houk. A massive manhunt for a desperate man with a violent past. A long time with violent crimes. This morning this is a community no longer on edge. Reporter now, police say that prather was probably injured in his leg during that shoot out last night. Theres still a police presence. Now, you can see right there on the side of the road on the shoulder by the woods that is the location where the suspect was found. We dont know how far in the woods the suspect was holed up over night. This location is not very is far north from where the shooting actually took place. Now, as you can see traffic is moving just fine on route 1. That was not the case last night as this road was shut down for quite some time. Thats what were going to be dealing with for the next several days. Right now were at 50. The normal high is is now 64 degrees, i misspoke. 64 is the normal high. We are right now just a little bit cooler than this time yesterday by about 2 degrees. Its just going to be a pattern we stay locked in. As a result of the colder air we have a freeze watch in effect for late night into friday morning. Temperatures expected in all those areas shaded to drop below freezing. According to the baltimore sun, when the attorney general arrived at a house party on the delaware shore in june he pushed right by several underaged teens drinking alcohol. Gansler said he stopped by the beach house to talk briefly with his teenage son who was at the party and then he left. Gansler when onto say he does not remember whether he saw anyone drinking. He tells the sun even if he had it was not his responsibility as a parent of high ranking Law Enforcement official to intervene. Don, back to you. Thank you. Earlier this month gansler came under scrutiny when the Washington Post reported he had ordered his state troopers to drive recklessly and speed at his request. In Anne Arundel County police say alcohol may be partly to blame for a headon collision that seriously injured a 4 month old baby. It happened on clark road in jessup. Police say a 29yearold glen price was driving with his infant son in his lap when he crossed into oncoming traffic. The child is in critical condition. Several other people suffered nonlife threatening injuries. Were learning more about the murder of a young teacher in massachusetts. Students and parents gathered in danvers last night to remember 24yearold colleen ritzer. Police say a 14yearold student killed her with a box cutter inside the local high school. He is now being held on murder charges and has been deny bail. Police have not said a possible motive. Four contractors who worked on the healthcare.
