Hopefully a good ride for everyone. Coming up from the massachusetts border things are doing pretty well on 93, up to manchester. We did have a spinout on 93 southbound, just south of 293 a while ago. Car into the guard rail, not causing any major backups, but do use caution through that stretch of the rest of 293 is moving well through the city. Towards concord no problems through the hooksett tolls, some slight delays as you get to the 101 west starting to back up a bit through bedford, and the everett turnpike getting increasing volume right now northbound. 101 from manchester to hampton, no problems to tell you about. There is heavy volume on the spaulding turnpike. Im peggy james. Josh thank you. Jean iran has released the american sailors it detained in the persian gulf, but irans government still disagrees with the u. S. Over why they were that story is next. Its getting a little bit crazy here, powerball fever is gripping everybody. That story coming up. Mike gusty winds to go with the winter chill, but the wind do diminish soon. The fire chief in effingham took quite a ride. Im Jennifer Crompton with the you got people working incredibly long hours. Median Family Income today 4,000 less than it was in 1999. The bottom line of this economy is that it is rigged. What this campaign is about is to demand that we create an economy that works for all of us rather than a handful of billionaires. If you work 40 hours a week in america, you should not live in poverty. Im bernie sanders, jean iran has released the u. S. Sailors detained when the navy vessels drifted into iranian waters. Josh according to the u. S. , the boats had mechanical trouble, although iran says the americans showed, quote, unprofessional acts. It is almost here, the powerball drawing is tonight with the jackpot worth 1. 5 billion. Josh its the largest jackpot in the world, and just where that Winning Ticket will be sold is awful anybodys guess. Tonight there are some people in manchester hoping for big bucks and thats where we find andy hershberger. Reporter guys, we spoke with one employee here who says hes been working here for nine years, never seen anything like this. One of these lines may be buying that Winning Ticket that would fetch them 1. 5 billion in tonights powerball drawing. Sales were pretty good everywhere the tickets were told today. In windham there was a steady stream of customers trying to catch that brass ring. Chances of actually pulling that ring, one in 292 million. Yes, thats a long shot, but most people said its worth a try. And most people i talked to said they would be generous if they happen to get that lucky ticket. Give a lot to charity, of course, top things, take care of the veterans, they need to be taken care of. And then buy a Vacation Home somewhere warm. Somebodys got to win, maybe me. Reporter we talked to the owner today who said that about 4 00 he actually had had to shut the doors because it was just so crazy. So many people were coming inside. So he decided to make it like a the tickets, they go out, the next 20 come in, its been that kind of day. Heres another crazy thing. If theres no winner tonight, theres going to be another drawing. Ill tell you about that at 6 00. Andy hershberger, wmur news 9. Josh isnt there going to be another drawing if there is a winner . Jean yes. Josh so parts of the country are immune from powerball fever. In hawaii the very idea of a lottery keeps failing. Alaska doesnt have enough people to keep it going. And nevada casinos dont want the competition, and there are strong religious objections in utah, alabama and mississippi. Jean dont forget to tune in to news 9 tonight at 11 00 to watch the drawing and see if your numbers are the lucky ones. Mike numbers in terms of snow in northern and eastern parts of the state. Mount washington valley, points south and up to berlin a good 5 early this morning. Up at the weirs, still searching for ice out there in this part of the big lake. But none to be had with the strong gusty winds out of the northwest today. You will notice radar scopes nice and quiet. But is there a little bit of flurry activity in the great lakes. A lot of that is lake enhanced. Having said that a weak disturbance moving through that area is triggering a couple of light snow showers and that will move in early, early tomorrow morning, through about the lunch time hour. So we cant rule out a couple of flurries anywhere in the state during that time. But the evening will turn out to be on the dry side, and mighty chilly. Notice what we are right now, air temperature in the teens north, upper teens near 20 central. Lowed to mid 20s south and east. Running about 8 or 9 degrees below the average for this time of year. Part of this is courtesy of the gusty winds. From 20 to 30, these are the wind gusts at this hour. Atop Mount Washington. Factor in the winds, factor in the low temperatures and the feellike wind chill right now, take a look at this, 48 below zero over 6,000 feet up Mount Washington. Only single numbers north and west. And generally between 9 and 12 from the flakes region south. So its very cold. Winds will begin to shut down on tonight, skies will be fair and that will allow temperatures to fall off near zero north, 10 to 15 elsewhere. But cloud will cap that temperature fall later on tonight, and a flurry possible by morning. A lot of cold air continues to build on in. As for the next couple days, mainly dry outside of those flurries later tonight, early tomorrow morning, then once we get into friday night early saturday, thats the next storm that approaches, but at this point, trends continue to carry a lot of it out to sea. Which means good news if you dont want snow over the weekend, at this point looks like we just get brushed with that system, late late friday for tonight, clouds will be on the increase, a few flurries are possible by morning, scattered flurries tomorrow morning, then developing sun by the afternoon. Still cold, but not as windy, not too bad on friday, some partial sun and milder, and a little light snow, maybe some mixing south. But not much in terms of accumulation. Josh thanks. Coming up next, president ial candidates weigh in on the security of our nation. Jean on news 9 at 5 30, an [ horn honks ] okay, this is u. S. Cellular, and this is verizon. Now, same phones, but with u. S. Cellular you get 6 gigs of 4g data for only 40 per month 20 less than verizon. And u. S. Cellulars network was built to work in places like out here, here, and here. So, with all of that, why would you ever go to verizon . Switch to u. S. Cellular now and get 6 gigs of data for just 40 a month plus get 300 back. Shes always stood strong. To get the job done. Hillary clinton. She stood up to china. And spoke out on womens rights. Went toe to toe with russia on human rights. The drug and Insurance Companies spent millions against her. But hillary didnt quit until eight million children got health care. Ive never been called a quitter shes got what it takes to do the toughest job in the world. Im Hillary Clinton and i approve this message. Josh were asking every president ial candidate the same series of questions. Last night we heard from the first group of candidates on National Security. Asking what they consider the greatest threat, and what they would do about it the the white house. In the near term it is isis. In the medium term it is iran and russia, and in the long term it is china. So we have to acknowledge what isis is. It is radical islamic terrorism. In order to defeat them, and they must be defeated, we need to lead and support our allies who fight them on the ground as we speak, whether its the jordannians, the kurds, the turks, french, british, now given this horrific attack, only the United States can lead and we are not leading today. President obama continues to present the American People with a false choice which is if you dont like what im not doing, the only opportunity to change anything is tens of thousands of boots on the ground is simply false. There is much we have been asked to do and none of it are we doing. All of it i would do, whether its arming the occurred or providing bombs to the jordannians or standing with the french and british. Weve allowed things to deteriorate pretty far and we have two major challenges simultaneously now. One is the International Terrorist guerrilla war thats going on against the western states. I was governor during the 9 11 attack, i chaired the National Commission on Homeland Security for the United States. Done. Army veteran. I have the credentials to deal with this issue. Issue, the rise of russia and ukraine and in syria, chinese, the korean disillusion, the iranian threat. The
