Say a Liquor Store Owner was stabbed and killed. They described George Patouhas as kind and generous who talked often about politics, Current Events and his wife and kids. Hes a friendly guy. Im sure hes helped out a lot of people. Reporter police say 23yearold james dillon who lives a couple blocks away from the store killed patouhas during a violent sevenhour crime spree. Dillon allegedly slashed and stabbed bertha carpio, his neighbor on 36th street sunday morning. Dillon also tried setting a third victim on fire. When police cornered dillon at his parents house, gunfire erupted. A man nearby told his son to stay down. I said dont go out. Its pretty scary to know that in this neighborhood. Reporter police say he through some kind of chemical in this bottle at Police Officers and that he also had a knife. People who live steps away from dillon told us theyd never seen him before. Id never seen him before. I dont know. Reporter they know what he looks like now. And as you take a live look here at the flowers, the memorial growing for mr. George patouhas. As you mentioned, there is also this investigation, part of it, revolves around an accelerant used in the attacks. As for the suspect, he remains in the hospital in Critical Condition. Weve learned the driver of a car that struck and killed two new jersey teenagers over the weekend was speeding at more than 70 Miles Per Hour. New at noon, the connecticut teenager charged with stabbing a class mate to death on prom day back in 2014 has reached a plea deal. He pleaded no contest to killing the 16yearold nearly two years ago in a hallway of jonathan law high school. Friends and family say he was upset that sanchez turned down his prom invitation. You know, when youre million people, youve got to prioritize. That is why the nypd is implementing a couple new changes. Starting today, you can now no longer get arrested for certain low level crimes. Reporter good afternoon. The policy in effect today curbs prosecution on low level offenses here in manhattan. As you can imagine, its already getting mixed reviews. I would think it would be logical to arrest them. I guess they feel theres other crimes thats more adjustable than those urinating on the subway. Reporter that offense along with others like littering, smoking will be subject to a summons for firsttime violators. The second time, you face a judge. I wont. Reporter the d. A. s office says the policy cuts down a backlog of more than a million new yorkers who had an open summons for failing to come to court for the offense. Sparing them from making as many as 10,000 arrests. Keno bob is all for the change, but says the policy is too little too late. When they started to implement the quality of life crimes, a lot of individuals paid the price. Now theyre trying to reduce the severity of these incidents.
