On long island a man rushed to the hospital after an apparent violent encounter. It happened on oakland avenue in Central Islip overnight. Katherine creag is there. Reporter good morning. There are still detectives here on the scene. A gruesome scene. In fact, the victim apparently suffered such an awful injury to his hand that he bled and theres still blood on the street here. Oakland avenue is where we are. We want to show you video. All of this happening after 2 00 this morning. There was some kind of robbery or at least an attempted robbery, according to Law Enforcement sources. The victim, again on oakland avenue near motor parkway, was proached by a thief. The suspect had a large knife, possibly a machete, and used it to attack the victim. The victims hand was almost severed. Were learning that victim was air lifted to a hospital because his injuries swore severe. Its unknown what was taken or stolen, if anything. There is a detective out here on the scene. As you said earlier, darlene, they are looking for clues, anything else that could lead them to the suspect. Again, the thief, this attempted robbery or possible robbery, the thief, the suspect is still out thereto somewhere. Theyre looking for him and looking for evidence in this neighborhood. Back to you. It broke out around 11 00 last night at at 99 cent store on south broadway. Firefighters had to pull out of the building when the fire grew too intense. That fire broke out right next to st. Johns church. Were told the church did suffer some heavy smoke damage. We also have breaking news from Tennessee State university where a shooting has left one person dead, two wounded. Authorities say it happened at the universitys campus in nashville during a dispute over a dice game. New video shows parts of the campus marked with crime scene tape. Officials say the person who was killed was not a student at the college. The two who were wounded, they were enrolled there. Their injuries not considered to be life threatening. Comes just over a week after three people were shot and wounded at an offcampus party across the street from that college. New this morning, investigators have just released this Surveillance Video of a man wanted in connection for a violent murder in brooklyn. 35yearold Raphael Veras was found unresponsive in the front seat of his car in the East New York section. Police say he was stabbed multiple times in the chest. Veras pronounced dead at the hospital. If you recognize the man in this video, youre asked to contact authorities. Police believe they recovered a critical piece of evidence in the search. Officer randolph holder was killed tuesday. Divers were searching for the suspects weapon in the nearby east river. Dejah joyner was hit by a bullet that came through the window of her familys home in hempstead last friday. She died the next night. Police are still looking for the gunman. Weve learned that Arthur Lomando remains hospitalized after trying to take his own life. Overnight we received this photo of Suzanne Bardzell. She was a special needs teacher in teaneck, new jersey. Bardzells car was still running inside of her driveway here when shefrs found inside stabbed to death. They say lomando, who she filed a restraining order against earlier this month, was waiting for her. Mr. Lomando confronted her in the driveway, broke her left win doerks window, and attacked her with a machetetype knife. Reporter Authorities Say he fled to a subway station and threw himself in front of a moving train. After undergoing surgery, we learned he survived. Suzanne bardzell leaves behind two children.
