WPVI Action News At 600 AM February 16, 2016

Musics biggest night had many highs and a few low blows. Well break down the grammys for you. Lets turn now to dave murphy and karen rogers for weather and traffic. Good morning. This is a little odd feeling and then its definitely a lot milder out here in philadelphia and yet as i walked across to the Camera Position on the terrace there were still some icy patches and that may be what you find this morning on your local sidewalks, driveways and even side streets. As we take a look at Storm Tracker, theres a little bit of rain mixing with some freezing rain up in areas north of reading pushing up toward allentown. The Winter Weather advisories have been lifted o outside of the poconos. That actually is going to go on until 7 oclock this morning up there. It expired at 5 00 a. M. In our immediate suburbs but despite the fact that you dont see any local active warnings, the temperatures are still in the process of rising. It wasnt that long ago that we were down closer to the freezing mark and there was a lot of ice that formed overnight and we still have some of that working its way out. After sunrise it will probably start to get better but as you look at current temperature up in allentown and reading were still in the mid 30s and we were only maybe two hours ago down below freezing there so the ice hasnt melted there yet and in wilmington that 44 a a little misleading because we were also down much closer to the freezing mark as recently as about 90 minutes ago. Despite these warming temperatures be careful because theres still lingering ice on sidewalks and thats the story this morning. Temperatures are rising and ice is lingering especially on sidewalks and side streets but maybe even in patches of main roads. We are going to get milder, though. 56 degrees by 8 oclock and kind of holding there, going up to about 58 by 3 oclock. The next issue is a period of two or three hours of heavy rain that will move in probably later this morning after about 10 or 11 oclock and could still be rain and when the kids get out of school by 3 oclock. Street flooding possible there. Karen, thats another issue. For now really the focus is on that ice on the roads. Thats right and i think you have to expect even with temperatures in the 50s that youre driving through slush getting to the main highways. Were looking here in chalfont bucks county 202 parkway at bristol road. Were still seeing a lot of slush on the roads and you need to be careful especially in your turn lanes. I think its pretty easy to slip. Lets switch over to the flourtown area. Weve got an accident on 309. Its just a single vehicle accident, example of what can can lap when you spin out here. This is approaching paper mill road northbound as you head towards the turnpike youre dealing with this off to the side and you can kind of see some of the slush and ice still on the sides of the road. Now this is lionville Chester County route 100 at 113. Traffic seems to be moving okay but still some slush in spots. How about this disabled vehicle, its on the shoulder here in conshohocken. This is the blue route northbound past the schuylkill. Penndot has been on hand trying to assist with this. The highway mostly wet. You can see the splashback as people are driving through but the ramps, overpasses weve got slushy spots. This is the vine street expressway approaching the schuylkill. Again, mostly weather here but the highways 45 miles an hour speed restrictions still in effect and for good reason because weve got slushy spots here and there and the secondary roads lots of slush, tam. Thank you karen. Well can check back in with you later. Lets switch over to Annie Mccormick live in quakertown bucks county with more on the road conditions. Annie, when we first checked in with you this morning things were pretty icy hard to crack that ice. What is it like now . Reporter . Its still pretty much the same. You can tell its getting a little bit warmer so things are not as hard to crack as we should say. Take a look down here. This is grass with snow and then with light ice over it. And thats what youre looking at. Like i said earlier it was more like a cracked glass look but now its a little bit more wet you can see because those temperatures are rising but you really got to be careful because you do have a thin layer of ice pretty much over any sidewalk, parking lot, any pile of snow thats left over thats what youre seeing. Take a look at this video. This is video of what were a lot of drivers are going to wake up to before they head out on the roadways today. Thick ice covering cars, covering the windshields, almost two to 3 inches on some cars that were seeing. So, besides the fact you have to get in there warm up the car before you can even start scraping off thats ice, thats something youre going have to think about when you leave time to head to work today. Lets also take a look at the roadways right here. This is john fries highway and weiss road back out here live you can see the moisture on the roads. You can see that its actually puddling which is much different than what we saw this morning. Thats a good sign cause that means that things are warming up and also since the morning commute is starting to get along here things are moving around a little bit but that slush that karens talking about is something that you are seeing on the side of the roadways. Another thing that motorists are seeing that we saw earlier this morning are patches of fog in the area. We saw that coming unin the northeast extension here towards quakertown. Were still seeing foggy conditions around here as well so a couple factors you have to look out for before you head out this morning. Ice, fog, so much to look forward to before you head to work today. For now reporting live in quakertown, Annie Mccormick channel6 action news. Okay, katherine, thank you for that. It is 6 07 now and there were a lot of frustrated comcast customers yesterday and not just around here. Maribel aber live at the nasdaq in times square. Shes like a poet, isnt she. She is and she knows it. All right, so Storm Tracker6 live double scan were mainly dry across the region this morning. Ill go in tight on an area north of philadelphia around the Lehigh Valley where some light rain is popping through. Now, this was highlighted in blue a short time ago and we were worried about freezing rain. Now temperatures in places like Kutztown Fleetwood and allentown are up in the mid 30s quickly pushing towards the upper 30s so were showing it as green rain but i still want to remind you that there are a lot of icy sidewalks is especially in Northern Areas where we were only recently do you know around the freezing mark and even down south in philadelphia where were up over 50 degrees theres still lingering ice and slush on sidewalks and roadways. We have cloudy skies. Theres the airport. Wet conditions down at the surface. If youre Walking Around on some of those untreated sidewalks and you are going to be slipping and sliding a little bit. Same thing on your drive way and once you get behind the wheel, certainly some lingering problems with slush and maybe even some ice on some roads. 55 degrees in philadelphia though so things are rapidly improving. Were up into the 50s and 40s across south jersey. Up in those northern suburbs still in the mid 30s so we really havent worked all that well on the ice up there just yet. And the farther north and west you go through the region the more prevalent that problem might be until we get past sunrise and the temperatures rise a little bit more, thats something to worry about and to be careful about. Future tracker6 then shows us the next issue. Its going to be cloudy for most of the morning but eventually by 10 or 11 oclock well start to see some showers begin to develop. Some of these could be heavier and for about three, maybe four hours today were going to have in any given neighborhood some periods of heavy rain. This could produce that ponding and puddling and maybe poor drainage area street flooding in some areas. Smaller streams could rise over their banks as well and by 2 oclock this is still coming down. If your kids are leaded to school, might not be a bad idea to give them something that can repel the rainwater coming home and this may still be going on at 2 30 or 3 00 when some of them are getting out. We are expecting an inch or more of rain in a lot of spots. The other thing about this as the rain is coming in from the west, this is future tracker at 10 oclock this morning showing you will wind gusts, were going get wind gusts up over 40 Miles Per Hour ahead that of rain and even as its coming through at 12 30 in the afternoon. Now once the vein gone the winds ease back a little bit but even later for the rush hour youll want to hold onto that Steering Wheel because were still going to be looking at winds gusting in the 20s to maybe 35 Miles Per Hour range. In the Lehigh Valley weve got that icy condition this morning on sidewalks and side streets so be careful. Midday rain as i just showed you and a high getting up to about 43. Down the shore, pretty much the same story. Midday rain, 45 is what well see down at the shore but getting all the way up to 58 degrees under cloudy skies with periods of rain in philadelphia. Winds southsouthwest at 12 to twenty five Miles Per Hour. Then overnight well be drying out but we dip all the way down to 33 degrees. Hopefully the winds dry off those roads and sidewalks by tomorrow morning and we dont have a refreeze. Your exclusive accuweather 7day forecast, 58 degrees is todays high, windy, some heavy rain. Of course some icy problems early but the big issue during the daytime period will be that period of rain coming through. Mostly cloudy on wednesday down to 46 and 41, mostly sunny on thursday. Good looking but cooler day there. On friday more clouds, but we start to bounce those numbers up again. 45 is the high on friday. And then we get to the weekend and were all the way up close to 60 on saturday, windy, milder and 54 and breezy on sunday. Maybe a shower on monday. So, a little icy problem this morning. Other than that, mild and then we deal with some heavy rain. Thanks, david. 6 12 now. Campus raid. Several students at Villanova University take too many drugs and police say their own classmate sold them to them. Were learning more about what may have played a role in the sudden death of Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia. Karen. A new accident. 202 blocked in both directions. Details on this accident. This is a big one for your morning commute. What you want to do is stick to lancaster avenue, route 30, as your alternate to this one. Its causing problems this morning. We have temperatures everywhere that are above freezing now. But problems everywhere nonetheless. As we look at some of these accidents, west chester pike eastbound at green lane. Heres a new accident coming in in west chester. In upper merion we have an accident here on radnor road at croton road. One in West Conshohocken that just cleared on marion hill lane. Even with temperatures above freezing weve got slush, weve got ice on parts of the roads even though the highways are mostly wet we see slushy spots there but certainly the secondary roads and the turn lanes youre going to be dealing with this as well am i slot this video this morning in camden county. Temperatures in the 50s but look at the sidewalks, completely covered in snow. You have some of the slush, the ice on the sides of the roads. Even where you have all that melting. I posted this on my facebook paper and you can share with me your morning commute as well. You see these temperatures, i mean, 55 degrees in the city but yet weve got a lot of that slush and ice.
