Your time is 6 02. Happening today, the trial against a mother prosecutors say abandoned her baby girl begins. Police say Sandra Mcclary left her baby in a car seat on druid hill avenue in july. Police say mcclary tried to blame the babys father. She is charged with child neglect and reckless endangerment. The search for a missing man turns tragic in laurel. Workers mowing the grass along the bw parkway found a car overturned in the water yesterday afternoon. Inside police found the body of 26yearold marcus lee freeman. His family reported him missing since october 15th. Investigators spent hours trying to find out exactly how and why freeman crashed. D. C. Police say they arrested several people responsible for a series of robberies. Last week there were six robberies an hour near the navy yard and on capitol hill. Police say small groups of three to five people are committing multiple robberies at night. Robberies are one of the Biggest Challenges in the district now. She went on to say police made two arrests in two major cases in the last four days. The death toll rising after a massive earthquake in the middle east. We learned that 311 people have died after the 7. 5 magnitude earthquake hit afghanistan and pakistan yesterday. That number is expected to go up even more today. Most of the deaths were in pakistan, where thousands of homes had been damaged. Dozens in afghanistan were also killed. Right now rescuers are struggling to help out survivors and the army will be using choppers above to bring supplies and get them to the victims. Virginia Governor Terry mccauliff will make the announcement. Patrick henry became fully accredited this school year. This morning metro is recognizing her for her role in the takedown. Transit police chief ron pavlik awarded her with a certificate of valor. Rhone says the suspect quickly started arguing with other passengers at the anacostia station when she and a colleague confronted him, he admitted to having a gun. Thats when rhone called Transit Police and her coworker held the suspect down. I did what i thought that i would have wanted somebody to do for me if i was in that situation. Police say the suspect is rondez tibbs from southeast washington. They say he robbed a man at gunpoint before jumping on the train at anacostia. Another Metro Development this morning, the agency is close to choosing a new leader apparently. Multiple sources telling news 4 transportation reporter adam tuss metro is down to two finalists. They could be days away from an announcement. Metro has not had a permanent general manager for nearly a year now. This morning, Prince William county School Officials asking parents to look for signs your child may need help. Four Prince William teenagers died over the weekend in three separate events. This morning were learning two of those teens died from stab wounds. The medical examiner says 17yearold indya davis took her own life. The manner of death for Lyle Ferringer is still pending. The teens were found dead inside a minivan after being reported missing by their families. Do you think Police Across all Law Enforcement agencies should use body cameras the same way. The American Civil Liberties union of virginia thinks so. It review ed 59 agencies across the state. It found only 3 of them require officers to tell the public when theyre recording. The group says agencies rules should be uniform on how long a department can store data and the consequences for officers who break the rules. More than 150 Baltimore City Police Officers are wearing body cameras, part of a trial period that started on monday. They hope the cameras boost public confidence, provide additional evidence and reduce the number of citizen complaints. The Deputy Commissioner says every officer will have a body camera within the next two years. Closing arguments expected to start tomorrow in the trial for accused serial killer charles severance. The defense took aim at testimony placing severance in the area of the most recent shooting. A witness says she saw a man who looked like severance in a neighborhood shortly after Ruthanne Lodato was killed. The defense suggested it was a different man, a man questioned by police. The defenses final witness, a private investigator, is expected to finish her testimony today. Severance is accused of killing three people in alexandria over a tenyear period. 6 18 now. This morning, the woman who drove her car into a crowd is in jail on suicide watch. Prosecutors say 25yearold adacia chambers deliberately hit the people watching an Oklahoma State University Homecoming parade on saturday. Four people died, 47 others were hurt there. Her father and aunt were in court yesterday. Chambers spent the day with her aunt the day before that crash. I tried to wrap my mind around that. If she was in such a bad state, why didnt i see that . Chambers relatives say they do not believe her actions were intentional. Police say she was under the influence, but do not have a toxicology report to confirm that. President obama heads back to his own town to join the Nations Police chiefs. Hell speak in chicago today. Police across america want universal back ground checks for anyone trying to buy a gun. They say the checks will help keep guns from people who shouldnt carry them. Police chiefs hope the public will push lawmakers for legislation that will reduce gun violence. Virginia needs to step it up when it comes to funding education. Thats according to the state council on higher education. The council will meet today in richmond, where uva president Theresa Sullivan will address council members. The council says virginia is ranked 44th in the nation when it comes to general fund support for higher education. An Alabama State trooper caught on camera bringing a homeless man and his son some food. The father was begging on the side of the road. The picture went viral. The trooper said he was trying to brighten someones day. As i was traveling, i said, let me get them something to eat to make them have a good day. They just basically said thank you and they were very appreciative. Williams has been a trooper for nine years and says hes humbled by the attention, but just doing what good human beings do.
