The running backs, meanwhile, were far from a highlight. Although the blame doesn’t fall solely on their shoulders, the Spartans had one of the least-productive rushing attacks in the nation. “Ultimately, we didn’t play very well last year,” Michigan State running backs coach William Peagler said. “I wasn’t pleased with the way we played but I think our guys have kind of put a chip on their shoulder and said let’s go compete our asses off and take this thing to the next level.”
