Washington, March 14 (CNA) U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday called on Paraguay to work with Taiwan in its ongoing fight against COVID-19 amid widespread protests in the South American country over its government's handling of the pandemic.
In a phone call with President Abdo Benitez, Blinken reiterated U.S. support for the Paraguayan people as they struggle with the impact of the pandemic, while outlining U.S. efforts to provide help, according to State Department spokesperson Ned Price.
Blinken also underscored the importance of "free expression, peaceful demonstration and the rule of law in democratic societies," while condemning recent acts of violence, referring to protests in Paraguay, Price said.
