As California looks to Blue Shield to assist in the statewide distribution and administration of the COVID-19 vaccine, the UC system is left wondering whether they will continue to receive doses. The state’s decision indicated a shift to county-based mass vaccination programs, which may mean that the university will no longer receive doses to vaccinate the campus community, according to a campuswide email sent Friday. Campuses are unlikely to acquire new doses for at least the next two weeks or until the vaccine is more widely available, the email notes. Those who received their first dose from UC Berkeley’s University Health Services, however, should be able to receive their second dose as well.
