UMC Health System is opening a new Children’s Emergency Center, an emergency room just for children. The new campus located at 602 Indiana Ave., right next to the existing adult emergency room, will have access to more resuscitation and trauma rooms than any other children's hospital in West Texas, according to a news release. The new facility has eight dedicated pediatric beds and five trauma beds, with one dedicated as a pediatric trauma room. According to a news release, the children's emergency room will have an in-house pediatric orthopedic surgery team to quickly help children in an emergency situation. The hospital will have immediate access to x-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds and MRI to provide the most advanced care.
