Under fire, Gainesville trashes garbage-fee plan

The current system of garbage collection that allows people who recycle more to toss out less regular trash and save money will remain — for now.
Under public backlash, the Gainesville City Commission on Thursday voted to rescind their recent decision to eliminate the current variable fee for trash pickup, known as “Pay As You Throw." Instead, the commission had voted to replace that with a flat-fee system.
