by TOM BRINDLEY “Your assumptions are your window on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in.” — Alan Alda, actor. The first Friday in March is National Unplugging Day, a 24-hour period in which people take a hiatus from personal electronic devices that have come to be a major player in the lives of individuals and society. According to a survey, in 2020 the average American household had 10 connected devices, whereas, in 1950, four out of 10 household owned telephones, and just 9 percent owned televisions. Unplugging provides an opportunity to think about the amount of time consumed and the quality of usage.
