Ames Tribune While Iowa educators figure out what exactly the state's recently passed law on certain concepts related to racism and sexism means, the law's passage has already prolonged efforts to update Iowa State University's course diversity requirement. Kim Reynolds signed in June a law that took effect July 1 banning the teaching of 10 "specific defined concepts" that include ideas as the contention that the U.S. or Iowa are “fundamentally or systemically racist or sexist” or that someone of any race or sex “bears responsibility for actions committed in the past” by others of their race or sex. Reynolds said at the time that the new law, HF 802, would address the teaching of critical race theory in Iowa schools.
