WAUPUN - Eighteen years ago, Dr. Scott Hansfield left his obstetrics and gynecology practice in Chicago and moved to a place three hours north and about 2.6 million people fewer. At Waupun Memorial Hospital, Hansfield schedules his vacations around his patients' due dates and sets aside five or 10 minutes in each woman's annual exam to get caught up on what's happened in her life over the past year. He's the only OB-GYN at the hospital and considers it more of a lifestyle than a job. If a delivery happens late at night or in the early morning, he can spend 72 hours straight at work. Other weeks, when no one in the city of about 11,000 or its surrounding areas is having a baby, things can be pretty quiet.
