New Brown, a Pennsylvania native who relocated to Craven County 15 years ago, can still remember the young men in Valley Forge Military Hospital, the ones who returned from Vietnam crippled and maimed, the ones who, despite their injuries, would make a point of showing off for her in their wheelchairs. The memory of those young men has risen again in Brown’s mind this week. As one of the 250 citizens who volunteered to serve at the The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall being displayed at Lawson Creek Park through Sunday, Brown lent her time and energy to help set up the “The Wall That Heals” when it arrived in town on April 7.
