The Texas Poison Center Network has received roughly 15% more calls about rattlesnake bites through June 30 this year, compared with the same period in 2020.
So far, there have been 86 rattler bites reported, compared with 75 in the first half of 2020 and 71 during the same span in 2019, said Lizbeth Petty, a public health educator with the North Texas center. The numbers may be underreported because they include only cases the poison center network is told about, and not all hospitals report snakebites.
