Weekend storms bring drought relief to Lubbock, South Plains A round of weekend thunderstorms caught Lubbock up to its average year-to-date rainfall and brought much needed relief to drought-stricken parts of West Texas. And there's likely more to come, along with a continued threat of severe weather to start off the work week, according to the National Weather Service in Lubbock. The potent line of thunderstorms that moved across the South Plains late Saturday brought upward of an inch of rain at many locations, along with some flooding in Gaines County and on streets around the Hub City. The area deepest in the ongoing drought - western portions of the South Plains - saw some of the heaviest rainfall late Saturday.
