By Darlene Brown, executive director Craven County Partners in Education Weyerhaeuser and Craven County Partners In Education announced a $10,666 investment from the Weyerhaeuser Craven County office through the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund. The funds will be used towards the Leader In Me Program at Arthur W. Edwards Elementary ($5,000) and to purchase a John Deere utility tractor for the West Craven High Agricultural program ($5,666). Darlene Brown, executive director of Partners In Education, explains, “We are very grateful for the funding of these two grants; they will serve our students by putting them on the road to success in their chosen careers. At the heart of the Leader In Me grant are the 7 habits of highly effective people. Students and school staff are taught the 7 habits in ways and terms at each grade level in age/development appropriate ways to grow our Arthur W. Edwards Elementary students as leaders who can lead themselves, then lead others. The use of the tractor by the WCH Ag Department and the WCH Future Farmers of America Chapter will allow our students to gain tractor skills that will be extremely valuable in their post-secondary education and workforce in the agricultural field”
