Although Facebook is best known as a social media platform, its design ventures—including its Frank Gehry-designed headquarters in Menlo Park, California—are worth a second glance. Their latest? A mixed-use development that will replace an existing million-square-foot warehouse of office space with new office space, as well as 1,729 apartments, a supermarket, a 193-room hotel, and numerous restaurants and shops. And its not just for Facebook employees; anyone can rent or shop there. Known as Willow Village, this community will be located in proximity to the tcurrent Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, turning the surrounding property into a neighborhood. Facebook is collaborating with Signature Development Group, a real estate development company based in Oakland, California, on the development. It's not just meant to be high-end housing, either: Out of the 1,729 apartments, 320 will be offered at affordable price points and 120 will be specifically for senior citizens.
