Donald Trump may well be be acquitted for a second time on impeachment charges this week, but that may not be the end of the former president's legal problems.
In Georgia, Fani Willis, the newly elected Fulton Country district attorney, has opened an criminal investigation into Trump, looking into the allegation that he illegally tried to alter the outcome of Georgia's votes in the 2020 presidential election.
The initial investigation will focus on a phone call that Trump placed to Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on January 2nd, during which Trump pleaded with him to “find” enough votes to overturn his narrow defeat in the state. Over the objections of Raffensperger, a fellow Republican, who repeatedly stated that Joe Biden had won the state and there was absolutely no evidence of election fraud, the former president got increasingly irritated and pushed Raffensperger to find a way to reverse his loss. “So look," Trump told him on the phone call. "All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state.”
