Florida’s largest teachers union and local education associations say that emphasis doesn’t jibe with Gov. Ron DeSantis’ determination that public school educators not be priority “front-line” recipients of COVID-19 vaccines. According to the Florida Education Association (FEA), DeSantis’ variance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation that teachers and school staff be among the first to receive COVID-19 vaccines puts educators at risk, especially as more students return to in-person instruction.
