With younger teens now vaccine eligible, schools aim to be their source for COVID-19 shots: ‘Make it available in a place they already are’

Determined to get COVID-19 shots in young arms before the end of the school year, several suburban Chicago school districts hope to deliver vaccines to students 12 and older at school-based clinics as early as this week.
While many such vaccine sites in Cook and the collar counties have already been providing vaccines for high school students 16 and older, the expansion of eligibility to kids ages 12 to 15 arrives after the recent FDA emergency use authorization, and in anticipation of full approval on Wednesday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
