FOR the final Bike Worcester article of 2020 it’s time to reflect on the comings and goings of the strange year that has just passed, from a pedal-powered perspective. Cycling and active travel was pushed up the priority list this year by central government, which was both welcome, and overdue. The requirement for social distancing saw councils up and down the country allocating more space for pedestrians and cyclists and creating low traffic neighbourhoods, to enable and encourage active travel as people moved away from public transport. This was funded by an Emergency Active Travel fund, which sadly saw Worcestershire only receive 60 per cent of the allocated money.
