York students nominated to U.S. military service academies Portsmouth Herald YORK, Maine — Two local students were among those nominated last week by Maine's two U.S. senators to attend military service academies. Jonathan Leal and Calvin Healey, from York High School, were nominated by Sen. Susan Collins and Sen. Angus King, according to a joint statement the senators issued last Thursday. Leal and Healey were nominated to the United States Military Academy at West Point, and Leal was also nominated to the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, according to the announcement. To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized nominating source, which includes members of Congress.
