YORK, Maine –– One team from York High School beat the other YHS team Saturday, Feb. 27, in the Nor easter Bowl, a regional academic competition that is the first step before competing in the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) this spring.
Before facing off, the two YHS teams competed virtually against eight other teams from Maine and New Hampshire in this year s event, hosted by the University of Maine. Sanford High School, Belfast High School, Falmouth High School and ConVal Regional High School in Peterborough, New Hampshire, all participated in the competition, with each school sending two teams. The York teams produced standout performances in every round of competition before meeting in the final, team coach and YHS Marine Science teacher Mike Masi said. Masi coaches the YHS teams alongside Lindsay Nichols, who teaches Biology and Anatomy Physiology.
York students nominated to U.S. military service academies

YORK, Maine Two local students were among those nominated last week by Maine s two U.S. senators to attend military service academies.
Jonathan Leal and Calvin Healey, from York High School, were nominated by Sen. Susan Collins and Sen. Angus King, according to a joint statement the senators issued last Thursday.
Leal and Healey were nominated to the United States Military Academy at West Point, and Leal was also nominated to the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, according to the announcement.
To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized nominating source, which includes members of Congress.
