Lauding Bangladesh s extraordinary generosity, the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry has said the United States remains very focused on supporting all concerned in finding a lasting solution to the Rohingya crisis and restoring democracy in Myanmar.
Addressing a joint briefing at state guesthouse Padma following his meeting with a high profile Bangladesh delegation led by Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Kerry said the international community needs to step up demonstrating their responsibility to end the Rohingya crisis.
The US Presidential envoy highly appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina s leadership in demonstrating an extraordinary active generosity which, he thinks, is obviously “very expensive” for Bangladesh. ....

Dhaka, Apr 9 (efe-epa).- The United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry, on Friday reaffirmed his country’s commitment in dealing with climate change and promised to work together with all stakeholders concerning the issue.
“No one country can solve the problem of climate crisis and today no country doubts that there is a crisis,” Kerry said at a press conference in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, where he is on a one-day visit.
Kerry arrived in Dhaka after wrapping up a four-day India visit, to deliver US President Joe Biden’s invitation to Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attend the Leaders Summit on Climate on Apr. 22-23. ....

Fresh UNIDO-led research in collaboration with the World Bank provides concrete evidence that removing fossil fuel subsides would not only make environmental sense but would also improve firms’ economic performance. New firm-level data from Oman show that higher fuel prices are not a drag on competitiveness. In fact, reducing subsidies and allowing fuel prices to rise could ultimately aid the post-COVID-19 recovery. This is because, according to the data studied, higher fuel prices drive business upgrading, leading to a boost in productivity. They could also encourage manufacturing companies to switch to the kind of long-term sustainable efficiency practices needed to stop climate change. ....
