REDDING, Calif. - The grand opening of the Distelhorst to downtown walking and biking trail will be Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to the City of Redding.
The $5 million project that was funded by state and local sources will provide a connection between the Sacramento River Trail and the Downtown Redding. ....

City of Redding working on biennial budget for 2021-2023

One of them includes renovations to the big pool at the Redding Aquatic Center.
“We also have a number of capital projects on the park s side,” said Kim Niemer, the Director of Community Services and Development Services. “We re pretty excited to be replacing some old playgrounds. Right now, we re doing a big renovation to the small activity pool at the Aquatic Center and this is budget will have funding to replace the big pool and re-plaster it.”
The Community Service Department also set up a pilot communications team. The team handles a lot of outreach through social media and the city s new podcast. ....

A fire burned part of the Denny s restaurant on East Cypress Avenue in Redding early Friday morning, Jan. 29, 2021. The fire s cause was under investigation.
Redding firefighters extinguished a fire early Friday morning at the Denny s restaurant at 542 E. Cypress Ave.
The fire department responded at 4:41 a.m. and saw a fire burning outside the building. Flames reached the restaurant s interior but there was only a minimal spread, fire officials said.
Major damage was reported to part of the building s exterior and minor damage to the interior. The fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damage to the building and $500 in damage to contents. ....
