NGC 1808 Starburst Galaxy in Columba - Astronomy Magazine - Interactive Star Charts, Planets, Meteors, Comets, Telescopes

NGC 1808 is barred spiral galaxy located in the southern constellation of Columba. It was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop from Australia, who describe it as a faint nebula . It is a barred spiral with marked similarities to our home Milky Way Galaxy. NGC 1808 is distinguished by a peculiar nucleus, an unusually warped disk, and strange flows of hydrogen gas out from the central regions. Amidst all of this, because NGC 1808 is undergoing with intense star formation activity it has been deemed a starburst galaxy. NGC 1808 is relatively close to our Milky Way, and spans in about 35,000 light-years.

Asteroid travelling at 43,000km per hour to come closer than the Moon tomorrow

This means the asteroid will fly by our planet, safely, at just over 269,000 kilometres away.
Data from NASA shows the asteroid is zooming through the solar system at a staggering 12 kilometres per second, or more than 43,000 kilometres per hour.
The extremely close approach to our planet will allow scientists to study the space rock, as it has been deemed a near Earth object (NEO).
