A little over four months after the European Union hastily signed a landmark investment agreement with China in a move hailed by Beijing as a diplomatic success, efforts by the E.U. to ratify the agreement are now reportedly on hold. The E.U. trade commissioner announced the pause on Tuesday, reflecting a rapid decline in sentiment towards China and following a bitter sanctions feud in March that saw Beijing target European ambassadors, politicians, and academics in response to E.U. sanctions on security officials in Xinjiang. ....

Leading industrial nations came out in support of Taiwan s observer status in the World Health Assembly (WHA), the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO), leading into this year s annual meeting May 24 to June 1.
It is the first time the Group of Seven as a whole has backed Taiwan s inclusion in the WHA.
We support Taiwan s meaningful participation in World Health Organization forums and the World Health Assembly. The international community should be able to benefit from the experience of all partners, including Taiwan s successful contribution to the tackling of the COVID-19 pandemic, the G-7 said in a joint communique Wednesday after foreign ministers gathered this week in London. ....

Saxony-Anhalt State Premier Reiner Haseloff who is up for reelection next month defended his decision by saying that he was vaccinated against polio with a Russian vaccine in the former East and, as a result, had no issues with Russian vaccines.    
In the east, support for the Russian vaccine goes hand in hand for some with a distrust of the federal government and a sense that East Germany and its accomplishments continue to be overlooked.
  East Germans became very distrustful of the state over the decades and now that means the government in Berlin,  said Silke Satjukow, a Russia expert and professor of history at Halle University who was vaccinated as a child in the GDR with Soviet vaccines. She says many Germans from the eastern states still identify with Russian scientific achievement. ....

Leading industrial nations came out in support of Taiwan’s observer status in the World Health Assembly (WHA), the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO), leading into this year’s annual meeting May 24 to June 1.
It is the first time the Group of Seven as a whole has backed Taiwan’s inclusion in the WHA.
“We support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in World Health Organization forums and the World Health Assembly.
