At least 18 people, including two healthcare workers were killed in a fire at a Covid-19 hospital in the western Indian state of Gujarat late on Friday night, officials said on Saturday, in the country s latest deadly hospital accident.
The fire started around midnight in the intensive care ward of the Patel Welfare Hospital, a designated COVID-19 facility, in Bharuch city, 115 miles (185 km) south of the state s main commercial city, Ahmedabad ....

Personal care, dine-in services resume in MECQ areas

RESTAURANTS in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) may again provide indoor dine-in services, while beauty salons and barber shops may reopen, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said on Thursday, April 29, 2021.
Roque said the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases approved indoor dine-in services of up to 10 percent and personal care services of up to 30 percent of capacity.
Both clients and service providers in beauty salons, beauty parlors, barber shops and nail spas must wear face masks at all times.
Roque said these businesses may operate beyond their allowed capacity provided that they comply with the Safety Seal Certification Program, which recognizes establishments that strictly follow health protocols. ....

BERLIN: Four people have been killed and one person seriously wounded in an attack at a care clinic in Germany, police said on Thursday.
Officers said the victims were subjected to “intense, extreme violence”, but did not give any details around the circumstances of the killings in the eastern city of Potsdam.
A 51-year-old employee has been arrested “under strong suspicion” of carrying out the assault, police said. The motivation for the attack is not known, they added.
Those killed are believed to be patients at the clinic, local newspaper Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten reported. ....

The second wave of Covid-19 has pulled back the recovery gains with subsequent impact on asset quality, Says the credit rating agency
Credit rating agency CARE Ratings expects credit costs to remain elevated for non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) in FY22 amid the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
For FY22, CARE Ratings expects a level of stress, especially in the loan portfolio under restructuring and those which were under moratorium, the impact is likely to be visible in the next one year.
“As such, delinquencies are estimated to rise moderately,” according to a report by the credit rating agency.
The agency observed that NBFCs have been grappling with a succession of uncertain events since 2016 demonetisation, Goods and Service Tax (GST) implementation, liquidity crisis in 2018 and Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. ....
