Sturgeon, once hunted for its caviar and meat, could be returning to Britain s waters after 200 years.
The European Sturgeon is critically endangered and now only breeds in the Garonne river basin in France.
In the 19th century, the fish was found in all major UK rivers including the Severn, Avon, Ouse, some Scottish rivers and the Thames, with remnants of sturgeon found in the medieval remains of Westminster Abbey. ....

A world first study within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park has found limited fishing zones (yellow zones) are still important conservation and fisheries management tools when paired with no-fishing zones.
Lead author Dr April Hall, from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University (Coral CoE at JCU), said partially protected yellow zones still contain healthy numbers of reef fish targeted for recreational and commercial fishing. These include coral trout, tropical snappers, emperors and tuskfish. ....

Two out of three farmers believe more training would help improve the environment, biodiversity and water quality on Irish farms.
The results were part of the Department of Agriculture’s public consultation on the new Results-Based Environment Agri-Pilot (REAP), which received over 1,500 responses.
One in three thought further regulation would result in improvements, while almost 40% of respondents thought further industry involvement would help.

After a year ofpandemic delay, the international community is ready to decide on a newproposed target for global diversity protection this year. Under theGlobal Biodiversity Framework Post 2020 (GBF Post 2020), the target aims topreserve at least 30% of the world s area, connectivity, and integrity ofnatural ecosystems by 2030 or the 30 by 30. Its negotiation kicked off duringthe 14th Conference of Parties (COP) of the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) inEgypt in November 2018.
The proposed targetprescribes a new playing field following the Aichi Biodiversity Target (ABT)2011-2020 concluded over a decade ago at the 10th COP of CBD in Japan.
