A Confederate monument stolen from a Selma cemetery last month has been recovered and two people have been arrested, with a third still sought.
Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford and District Attorney Michael Jackson on Friday confirmed the recovery and the arrests.
According to New Orleans police, Eighth District detectives on Tuesday received a request from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office for assistance in recovering the Jefferson Davis Memorial Chair, which was stolen in late March from Old Live Oak Cemetery in Selma.
During the investigation, detectives received a tip that the chair was at a location near the intersection of Feliciana and North Galvez streets. The chair was found and recovered on Thursday - seemingly undamaged. The chair was taken into police custody and will be released to its owners. ....

The group, which calls itself White Lies Matter, earlier this week said they would give the chair to the United Daughters of the Confederacy if the organization agreed to hang a banner outside its Richmond, Va. Headquarters.
They demanded that the UDC hang the banner at 1 p.m. Friday - the anniversary of the Confederacy’s surrender in the Civil War and leave it there for 24 hours.
The banner bears a quote from Assata Shakur, a Black Liberation Army activist wanted by the FBI for the 1973 murder of a New Jersey state trooper: “The rulers of this country have always considered their property more important than our lives.” ....
