good evening, it's great to have you with us here on a tuesday night. we do begin tonight with the breaking news. millions of americans in florida now bracing for this major hurricane in the coming hours, set to make landfall in the morning as a major category 3 hurricane. winds 115 miles per hour. it is growing stronger at this hour, moving across those very warm waters of the gulf. the tampa airport closed, tornado warnings in southwest florida around naples already. and now states of emergency not only in florida, but in georgia and the carolinas, as well. take a look tonight. the hurricane seen from the international space station. the eye dropping there. the rapid intensification has now begun. florida's southern-most point key west, you can see right there, being lashed by strong winds and driving rains. the outer bands also reaching fort myers beach, which is, of

you can see the eye on the latest satellite picture. we can see it on the radar from tampa and also from key west. but 115 miles per hour offshore, still strengthening, because it has some more time in the water. and then landfall somewhere maybe around sunrise tomorrow. that's the good news. sunrise is, you know, what, another 12 hours away. so it doesn't have a lot of time still in the water to gain a lot of strength. not like we're looking at 35 more hours in the water where this thing could really get going. now, it is going because we have lightning now around the center. when that happens, we know that the storm is strengthening itself. there is the wind speed there. st. petersburg just had a wind gust of 35 miles per hour. here comes the storm. it's in the middle of the atlantic -- in the middle of the gulf of mexico. it won't move. move this on up, we're going to see the landfall right through there. as it continues up, we're going to see 6 inches of rainfall, significant flooding, flash

tropical storm sitting off the coast of mexico. we are just now beginning to see it move a little bit to the north 7 miles per hour it. going to run into the gulf of mexico today. that is very warm water ultimately climbing up to 115 miles per hour it. that would make it a category 3 hurricane. that is our best current guess. this is the track and runs across the southeast before heading out to the atlantic. zooming in here a little bit. when we say wednesday morning. that's around 1:00 a.m. this is going to make landfall on wednesday, ultimately after that wednesday morning time frame, there were 115 mile-per-hour winds continue to intensify as it ultimately does make landfall. we have a hurricane watch from sarasota all the way up to apalachicola. big bend. looking at peak storm 7 to 11 feet along the big bend of florida. i will leave you with the rainfall totals, steve. because they are big. 4 to # inches widespread with rain for this system. some spots up to a foot of rain.

time you get into thursday morning. i will zoom in on it. wednesday morning, that's 1:00 a.m. at 115 miles per hour, would actually be a category 3 hurricane. so, plan on this making landfall there some time on wednesday morning. hurricane watches are in place from sarasota up around the big bend over to appear 4r567 that coalla. the big concerns with this are going to be storm surge, partially where you are looking at everything there in the red, the storm surge of 7 to 11 feet. otherwise, rain is going to be a big part of this story. again, everything there in the orange, you can be talking about 4 to 8 inches of total precipitation. flooding is going to be a big issue across florida, across the southeast, talking about georgia, south carolina, and north carolina. of course download the fox weather app. to track this storm over the next couple of days. for now though, tossing it back inside to you guys. >> steve: adam, let me ask you this, so the storm is scheduled to go over the really warm waters of the gulf. it was a couple of weeks ago we saw that that water in the gulf right around there was over

the initial landfall early wednesday morning. still likely the nighttime hours overnight. tuesday night into early wednesday morning winds at 115 miles-per-hour a category 3 hurricane. big area here from near tampa stretching toward -- tropical storm storm watches stretching farther to the south including places like naples. storm sedge is a big part of the story. low lying part of florida, the florida big bend could be very life threatening. additionally not just the water that you will see from that initial storm surge. a lot of rain with this system. looking at a lot of areas in orange we are looking at 4 to 8 inches of potential rainfall. some areas could see as much as a foot of total rainfall. inland flooding when it makes landfall will be important. then inland florida talking

hurricane warnings in effect, winds will be 115. there will also be land falling waterspouts and tornadoes with this storm along the florida coast. even inland possibly as far inland as ocala, orlando. this is kind of the right side of the eye here toward tampa and inland. so, yes, so many things are going to go wrong. not will. the things that could go right, the water could be cold. it is not. there could be a lot of shear. right now there is but that will end tonight. there could be some land interaction. there won't be. there could be some dry air. there is not. so those are the four things that could cool the storm down, and we have none of it. we have nothing other than things to make the storm get stronger. and up toward the big bend of florida here, this is the area here cedar key, highway 19, i-10 will likely be shut down at some point in time with these trees falling on the interstate,

advised to evacuate. governor desantis has cancelled his campaign to deal with this. this could go on certainly be a big issue the next 48 hours. by the time it hits land, it could be a category three or higher storm with winds in excess of 115 miles an hour. of course, keep in mind, clearwater to tampa. that is a very highly populated area. some of the northern areas not so populated at all. we'll keep an eye on that. also keeping an eye on franklin well off any danger, well off in the atlantic. it will be an issue going up the eastern coast of the united states. again, 100 or more miles out to sea. it will cause riptides and other disruptions for folks ill prepared for that and could mean a wet labor day weekend for folks looking to have one last go of summer vacation. they still might but it will be dicey and could be for many
