(WFIE) - With temperatures dropping below freezing the next couple of nights, locals might be concerned about their spring plants. 14 News stopped in Wednesday at the SWN Garden Center on Millersburg Road to find out what people can do to protect their budding investment. “With a heavier freeze coming in, you’re going to want to insulate a little bit better than that you can use a cardboard box,” one worker said. “I would still use the bed sheet and put the box on top of it, or a rubbermaid bin as well, so yeah - it’s not hopeless.”

This is because during the Kentucky General Assemblyâs session, the House voted to override Governor Andy Beshearâs veto on House Bill 563, which is also known as the school choice bill.

(WFIE) - A virtual public meeting is on the books Thursday to discuss the future of the I-69 Ohio River crossing. Officials say the meeting is an opportunity for people to learn more about the next steps of the project, including the preferred alternative. Right now, the model shows a four-lane I-69 bridge, which will be tolled. The Twin Bridges will stay in use for local traffic. That meeting is set for Thursday night at 6.
State reports 4 new COVID-19 cases & no deaths in local Ill. counties (Source: WFIE) By 14 News Staff | April 1, 2021 at 12:33 PM CDT - Updated April 1 at 12:33 PM ILLINOIS (WFIE) - On Thursday, Illinois health officials reported 3,526 new COVID-19 cases and 25 new deaths. The state has now had 1,248,111 total cases and 21,326 total deaths. According to the state’s coronavirus website, there are two new cases in White County and one in both Wayne and Wabash counties. There are no newly reported deaths in our area of Illinois. Illinois has expanded COVID-19 vaccination eligibility to higher education staff, government workers, and media. As of Monday, food and beverage workers, construction trade workers, and religious leaders also became eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Of those new cases, 19 are in Daviess County, four are in Webster County, three are in Union County, there are two in both Hancock and Henderson counties, and one in both McLean and Ohio counties. Green River officials say after a review by the state mortality committee, a previously reported death from Daviess County was determined not to be COVID-19 related.

(WFIE) - As Vanderburgh County leaders consider jail expansion designs and the cost associated, a local nonprofit is hoping a new resource will cut down on intakes. Congregations Acting for Justice and Empowerment employees, alongside United Caring Services’ Director, are hoping to get support from Vanderburgh County Commissioners for a new Crisis Care Center. It would help community members struggling with addiction and jail diversion. The facility is built but has an estimated operational cost of $325,000 a year, four days a week.
