Be Inspired By Green Cleaning
If you’re after some practical tips or ‘life hacks’ surrounding eco-friendly cleaning, cooking or gardening, then The Ace Book Club book of the month for April is a must read.
The book is the accumulation of knowledge and trial and error by mother and daughter team Alisa and Cynthia Mayne.
“Mum and I actually wrote this ten years ago, and I think this might be the fifth updated edition now,” Alisa explained.
“We grew up self-sufficiently with mum and dad until I was seven, and I’ve been in the food industry, running businesses for 25 years, so we’ve combined our knowledge with lots of simple life tips – some are tried and tested and been around for ages, others are just new techniques to put into your house.

“To see the people who have saved all year – numerous children that have got their piggy banks and loose change that they save all year, lots of people love to see us and it was so disheartening last year when we couldn’t do it due to COVID,” John said.

Social services prepare for influx
Local food banks and support services are bracing themselves for increased demand in April, now that government supports are being wound back.

JobKeeper came to an end over the weekend and, from April, the coronavirus supplement is being removed from JobSeeker.
The JobSeeker payment will now roughly equate to $44 per day, which support services say is not enough.
"You can't live on that amount of money," says Peter Matthews, General Manager of Albury Wodonga Regional Foodshare.
"There's going to be pressures on household budgets and, inevitably, when there's pressures on household budgets most people will pay the rent, the mortgage, the power bills, and then food become discretionary."

Reconnecting at the Races
Horse racing has been held at Dederang since 1865, but Saturday’s picnic races is perhaps the most keenly anticipated yet.
With COVID impacting sport and community events, President of Dederang Race Club Marcus Goonan says the Kiewa River Valley community is particularly looking forward to reconnecting.
“It’s really highlighted this year by the fact that the football season didn’t get off the ground and the cricket season has certainly been affected,” Marcus told Kylie and Kev.
“Sport is a really big thing in some of these smaller country communities. The Recreation Reserve supports seven different sporting clubs, which is really significant for a small town like ourselves for the community and connection.”

“It’s important that our players get the chance to prepare as best they can for the season ahead which is why we will travel to Albury for the trial,” Justin explained on melbournestorm.com.au
