Manila Water announces desludging schedule for February

MANILA - Manila Water Company (Manila Water) on Thursday announced its desludging schedule for this month as it encouraged its customers in the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal province to avail of the services to prevent clogging and overflowing of their septic vaults. The water and wastewater company also reminded its customers to coordinate with their respective barangay offices on the exact schedule of its free desludging services. "We cannot overemphasize the importance of desludging in protecting our environment as well as promoting sanitation within the homes. Regular desludging would prevent clogging of septic vaults that may cause overflow and contaminate groundwater," Manila Water Communication Affairs Group director Jeric Sevilla said in a statement on Thursday. Sevilla underscored the importance of customers' cooperation and advised them to avail of the service if their barangay is scheduled for desludging since it is only done in a cycle of every five years. Otherwise, he said, they will have to pay for the desludging service if they decide to avail it outside of the schedule. The residents of barangays Mahabang Parang in Angono and Batingan in Binangonan in Rizal province should expect desludging tankers in their communities this month. The desludging trucks will also roll out in Barangay Marikina Heights in Marikina City. The residents of barangays Tandang Sora, Krus na Ligas, Pasong Tamo, University of the Philippines campus, Kamuning, Batis and Roxas District in Quezon City can also avail of the service. Barangays Tabacalera and Magtanggol in Pateros are advised to clear obstructions to their septic tank covers in preparation for desludging this month. The desludging tankers will also be positioned at Barangays 765, 767, 775, 790,791, 796 and 798 in the city of Manila, and Bagong Ilog in Pasig City. The desludging service is part of the water company's sustainability efforts in protecting waterways. The waste from the septic tanks undergo proper treatment through its septage treatment plants before discharging to creeks, rivers and other waterways to avoid pollution. Simon Ola, the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO5) regional headquarters in Legazpi City (PNA file photo) LEGAZPI CITY - The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO5) on Tuesday said 11 suspects were arrested while 1,145.87 grams of suspected shabu were confiscated in anti-drug operations from Jan. 21-23. Lt. Col. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, PRO5 spokesperson, said the anti-drug operations that were conducted in different provinces in the region resulted in the seizure of PHP7,791,116 worth of shabu. In Camarines Norte, police arrested Leo Asistio Jr., 37, of Sitio Banaba, Barangay Inchican, Silang, Cavite. Asistio yielded 50 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of PHP340,000 and loaded caliber .38 revolver without make and serial number loaded, Calubaquib said. Police also nabbed Omar Maralit, 30, of Barangay Guisican, Labo, Camarines Norte, a rice mill operator, by virtue of a search warrant for illegal possession of drugs. He yielded around 1.03 grams of shabu with an estimated value of PHP7,004. In Camarines Sur, police seized more or less 1,000 grams of shabu with a street value of PHP6.8 million from Ryian Magdalita, 35, of Sampaloc, Manila. Magdalita was cornered by operatives at Zone 1, San Agustin, Pili, Camarines Sur. Two suspected drug dealers -- Aldin Fortuna, 36 ; and Luis Tampoco Jr., 50, both from San Vicente Ogbon, Nabua, Camarines Sur -- were caught with 20 grams of shabu with a street value of PHP136,000. In Naga City, authorities nabbed Marvin Badilla, alias "Og-Og", 24; and Augusto Badilla, 40, both of Zone 7, Sagrada Familia, Barangay Penafrancia, along with street-level individual, Angelo Cipres, 52, of Zone 3, Barangay Igualdad. Seized from Cipres was some 0.84 grams of shabu with a street value of PHP5,712. "Both are drug watch-listed individuals. They were arrested in an entrapment operation that resulted in the confiscation of more or less 1.5 grams with an estimated value of PHP10,200," Calubaquib said. In Masbate province, a "habal-habal" (motorcycle) driver, listed as a street-level individual, was arrested during a buy-bust in Sitio Cambarong, Barangay Poblacion, Monreal. He was identified by operatives as Michael Camposano, 43. Seized from him was some 16 grams of shabu worth PHP108,000. In Albay Province, Rolly Luna Manila, 38, and Melchor Prince Balsarza Millare, 35, both of Barangay Maroroy, Daraga were busted after selling some 56.5 grams of shabu to a undercover cop in exchange for PHP384,200.
