CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga - The police will never back down against illegal drugs and will sustain all their gains under the Duterte administration. Brig. General Matthew Baccay, Philippine Regional Office-Central Luzon (PRO-3) Director, said Friday their commitment to eradicate illegal drugs still holds. "We would remain relentless in our anti-illegal drug operations and in our drive to put a stop to the illegal drug trade," Baccay said in a statement. Data from PRO-3 showed that 821,084.95 grams of shabu with a Dangerous Drugs Board value of about PHP5.58 billion, and 1,204,634.48 grams of marijuana worth some PHP144 million were confiscated in the region from July 2016 to date. Data released Wednesday by the City Health Office showed that the remaining 18 of the 36 active cases are distributed in seven other villages, the highest of which is Barangay Sta. All the 36 active cases were acquired through community transmission, according to the City Health Office (CHO) records. File photo MANILA - Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) officials have cleared the release of 150 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) after they were found to be qualified for either parole or executive clemency. "Last Monday, 150 (PDLs of the 1,624) were returned and approved for release. The rest (1,474) are still at the BPP (Bureau of Pardons and Parole)," BuCor assistant secretary and spokesman Gabriel Chaclag told reporters Wednesday. He said BuCor submitted to BPP prison records, known as carpetas, of 1,624 PDLs for possible grant of parole and executive clemency. Chaclag said prison records of 87 PDLs were submitted this month, 363 in May, and 1,174 last April. The number include 121 PDL records for parole and 46 records for executive clemency, he said. A majority of these are records of PDLs in the country's largest penitentiary, the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City. In a statement, the CHO said the city has recorded 29,189 cumulative cases, 25 active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), and 1,246 deaths. Of the total recoveries, 26,347 are from the community; 416, detainees; 379, locally stranded individuals (LSIs); 361, authorized persons outside residence (APOR); 217, persons deprived of liberty (PDL); 89, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel; 72, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor); 33, returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs); four returning residents from Malaysia. In a statement on Saturday, the PNP said 3,338 of those apprehended were civilians, 61 security guards, 26 police officers, and 22 military personnel.
