Former co-owner of Funkin Fries and Funkin Desserts blames 'pingdemic' for closure of sites

TWO restaurants and a coffee shop in Weymouth and Dorchester have shut their doors suddenly just weeks after opening.

Funkin Fries restaurant opens in Weymouth town centre

A NEW American-themed restaurant was due to launch in Weymouth today.
More than 20 jobs are set to be created with the opening of Funkin Fries, in St Thomas Street, which bosses say will provide 'unique' food, drinks and desserts.

Based at the Town Bridge end of St Thomas Street, the new restaurant with its American-themed menu is the third 'Funkin' instalment after the brand's first eatery in South Street, Dorchester and Funkin Desserts, also in St Thomas Street.
According to co-owers Andy Phillips and Aaron Bradder, the new Weymouth restaurant will provide the town centre with an injection of 'vibrancy'.

"All of our packaging is bio-degradable.
"We're passionate, upbeat and we want to provide something different."

Visiting the coffee shop, Margaret Holmes, said: "The reason my friends and I came into the shop was because Andy said hello to us - he was so polite.
"It makes all the difference when a shop owner gives the time of day."

Funkin Desserts is soon to be followed with the opening of a Funkin Fries restaurant. The first Funkin Fries branch opened in South Street, Dorchester on March 26.
