PORT FOURCHON, La. (AP) â Coast Guard boats and aircraft have covered an area larger than the state of Rhode Island to search for 12 people still missing Wednesday off the Louisiana coast after their offshore oilfield vessel capsized in hurricane-force winds.
One worker's body was recovered Wednesday and six people were rescued Tuesday after the Seacor Power overturned Tuesday afternoon in the Gulf of Mexico, the Coast Guard said.
The search, interrupted by darkness and bad weather, has totaled nearly 40 hours and more than 1,440 square miles (3,730 square kilometers) of Gulf waters by Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release. The hunt for the missing continued into the evening, said Petty Officer Carlos Galarza.

Callais, who is from Galliano, says they were about 10-15 miles off the coast of Grand Isle when the wind and waves started thrashing against his boat, Ramblin' Cajun. There were three people on board, all made it to land safely, though the boat has some minor damage.

The US Coast Guard are searching for 12 people missing off the coast of Louisiana on Wednesday (local time) after finding one person dead and pulling six survivors from rough seas when their commercial vessel capsized in hurricane-force winds.
Coast Guard Captain Will Watson said winds were 130 to 145 km/h and seas were 2.1 to 2.7 metres when the Seacor Power lift vessel overturned.
“That’s challenging under any circumstance,” Watson said. “We don’t know the degree to which that contributed to what happened, but we do know those are challenging conditions to be out in the maritime environment.”

PORT FOURCHON, La. (AP) - With 12 people still missing from a capsized oil industry vessel, divers awaited a break in stormy weather Thursday that would allow them to reach the hull and search for survivors.
Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Jonathan Lally said rescuers don't know whether any of the missing might be caught inside the lift vessel that flipped over Tuesday in hurricane-force winds and high seas off the Louisiana coast.
"There is the potential they are still there, but we don't know," Lally said early Thursday. "We're still searching for 12 people because there are 12 still missing."
