Rodney Davis for governor? It sounds more possible by the day

SPRINGFIELD — When U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, visited a downstate coal plant outside of his district Friday, he did not turn attention to the energy policies of President Joe Biden. Instead, Davis turned his focus to Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker, who is in the midst of negotiations on energy legislation that would force the shuttering of the coal plant, called the Prairie Energy Campus, by 2035 unless it can achieve 90% carbon capture and sequestration. “I challenge Gov. Pritzker to make a trip to Prairie State, tour the power plant and mine, and talk directly to the me...

Illinois Congressmen introduce bill to expand Lincoln Home site

U.S. Reps. Rodney Davis of Taylorville and Chuy Garcia of Chicago have introduced legislation in Congress to expand the Lincoln National Historic Site in Springfield. The bill, H.R. 3818, introduced by Davis, a Republican, and Garcia, a Democrat, is similar to a bill introduced in the Senate by Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Springfield, on May 25. The legislation would expand the site’s boundary to include a replica of the 1844 cottage used by Abraham Lincoln and his family. The expansion also would expand the historic site to include the nearby Iles House at 628 S. Seventh St., once the home of Elij...

Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, and Darin LaHood, R-Peoria, since the November presidential election indicate they took a dim view of punishing Cheney for criticizing former President Donald Trump’s debunked election-fraud theories and for voting to impeach Trump a second time after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Davis spokesman Aaron DeGroot didn’t respon...

Illinois members of Congress divided on Electoral College objections

While Joe Biden easily won Illinois’ electoral votes, some members of the state’s congressional delegation are planning to object to the certification of electoral votes from other states when Congress meets Wednesday to certify the results of the 2020 election.  President Donald Trump falsely claims he won the Electoral College and accuses states of running a fraudulent election, which many Republicans have agreed with.  Newly elected Congresswoman Mary Miller, R-Oakland, who replaced Republican John Shimkus, released a statement on Dec. 29 pledging to object to the Jan. 6 vote that wo...
