Net Zero: Feds launch nationwide energy retrofit program

The federal government launched a new program that offers Canadian homeowners grants of up to $5,000 to make energy efficient retrofits to their primary residences.
The Canada Greener Homes Grants program invests about $2.6 billion over the next seven years and will be used to help Canadians upgrade heaters, install solar panels and replace windows and doors.
“As a country, every effort counts to keep our air clean and our environment healthy,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said while announcing the program on Thursday. “We know that these retrofits can sometimes be out of reach, so our government is now making them more affordable for Canadians.” ....

First year of inactive well program hailed as a strong success

Launched in May 2020, the ASCP will provide up to $400 million in federal government funding over two years through the COVID-19 Economic Response Plan.
This program has helped to create and maintain oil and gas service sector jobs and sustain the overall health of Saskatchewan s energy sector during a very challenging time, Energy and Resources Minister Bronwyn Eyre said. The ASCP, which builds on the work that Saskatchewan was already doing in this area, is a major economic stimulus program that is also good for the environment.
Working with Minister Eyre and the Government of Saskatchewan, this program kept workers on the job this past year during the pandemic, Canada s Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O Regan Jr. said. “Overall it could be better but it could have been a whole lot worse, too,” Creighton Mayor Bruce Fidler said of this year’s provincial budget that rolled out in April.
“There is some good news there regarding some of the health and social services programs and La Ronge is getting a good chunk of money to go toward their long-term care facility. There is some good stuff in the provincial budget but there is some lacking as well,” Fidler said. ....
