PARIS —Nike has once again topped Brand Finance’s annual “Apparel 50” report, which ranked the most valuable labels for the seventh year in a row, in a year that saw the value of leading apparel brands decline by 8 percent, according to the firm’s study.
Nike Inc. dropped 13 percent in value to $30.4 billion while Gucci ranked second at $15.6 billion, down 12 percent from last year. Louis Vuitton overtook Adidas for the third position, valued at $14.86 billion.
More from WWD
Brand Finance said it measures brand value as a label’s earnings related to its reputation, through a method that includes reviewing royalty agreements, estimating “brand strength” with figures like market share as well as other market research, and looking at revenues as a proportion of the parent company.

It's about the Shoes, Miles; Not the Colors, Styles

This is not a column about bringing back the âgood old days.â There was no air conditioning, roads were small and poorly maintained (OK that still is true) and television was black and white with four channels.
This is about common sense and what do consumers need versus what manufacturers are giving us. Weâre talking about running shoes, sports shoes and shoes that are supposed to be sports shoes but masquerade as a fashion statement.
Iâm a runner. I run. Iâve run a marathon, half-marathons and many 10-k and 5-k fun runs.
I started running in 1983 when going through a leadership school in the Air Force that required one-half hour of exercise three times weekly. Most of my classmates opted for volleyball. With my poor eye/hand coordination, I asked the instructor if it would be alright if I ran around the adjacent park for half an hour. He said knock yourself out and my life was changed almost immediately. But you need shoes.

Biscuit Filmworks UK Signs María Sosa Betancor

Hires, Wins & Business 6 Add to collection
María is based in Barcelona
Biscuit Filmworks announces the addition of María Sosa Betancor to it’s UK roster.
María was born in the Canary Islands with a view from her bedroom window of a volcano crater. Having grown up around this unique and dramatic perspective, there is a vitality and visceral nature that María brings to the environments she shoots that captures audiences in both her prolific personal projects and commercial work.
María’s background is in fine art and design and that has translated into her directorial style as she uses her artful imagination to craft enigmatic worlds that are visually striking and sophisticated. This has also led to her having a great command of post and incorporating different elements of film making craft into her work.

Boxes of Nike shoes sit on a shelf in the storage area in Young's Sneaker City.
Every wall inside Young’s Sneaker City on West Girard Avenue is stocked with sneakers black and white and swirled with candy colors, all of them askew just so on display shelves, and next to the cash register is the Nike wall. Not that anyone wants to buy any of the 25 shoes on the Nike wall. All of them have been sitting there for at least a year, most of them longer, styles whose coolness has come and gone, some of them shrink-wrapped in cellophane, some of them leaving dust on the fingertips of a customer who happens to pick one up.

Don't cry for Mikaela Shiffrin, she's continuing to push forward and encourages others to do the same
Mikaela Shiffrin, of Edwards, stretches through the finish line of the World Cup slalom in Levi, Finland, on Nov. 22. Shiffrin is home in Eagle County following the World Cup season, her 11th on the circuit and most difficult to navigate.

Mikaela Shiffrin doesn’t need to talk about planning — when she was in kindergarten, she planned on being a baseball player, not a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time overall World Cup champion. So there’s no need to try to predict the future for the upcoming Beijing Olympics in 2022 or the prospect of catching (more) all-time records in the sport. She knows that plans can change, such as they did dramatically ahead of the 2020-21 World Cup season that recently wrapped up in Europe in March.

Irina Shayk rocks a blue coat as she chats with Helena Christensen at the Michael Kors NYFW show

While outside, Irina struck up some conversation with some of her model friends, including superstars Helena Christensen and Karen Elson.
The group had to wait outside of New York City's Booth Theatre as part of its Covid-19 precautions, so they stood and chatted while masked in a fenced-off area just outside the venue.
Covered up: Irina's enveloping coat reached all the way down to her ankles as she arrived to wait outside the venue
Old school: Despite the jacket's haute couture origins, it featured a varsity-style letter stitched on the front as it was a high school athlete's coat

Meet Mr Doodle, the 27-year-old artist whose cartoons now sell for $1m apiece
Mr Doodle has become a coveted artist
The latest young British artist to crack the international art market is Mr Doodle (real name Sam Cox), a 27-year-old tousle-haired former graphic illustration student at University of the West of England, Bristol, whose work I would describe as a cross between the late American graffiti artist, Keith Haring, and Mr Men.
Cox, an irrepressible marker-pen doodler from a young age, covered his bedroom with doodles from as young as six years old. Art commentators have suggested he suffers from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. He adopted his name after he turned up at his Bristol college one day in his late teens wearing an outfit covered in his own spaghetti-like doodles.
