Garnier Green Beauty push needs consumer engagement to mainstream circularity says president

Educating and empowering consumers to collectively close the loop on circular beauty will be crucial in mainstreaming efforts worldwide, says L’Oréal’s Garnier president.
Over the last 18-months, beauty brands and retailers had made a plethora of sustainable pledges for the next five to ten years, from reducing plastic packaging and switching out ingredients to reducing overall carbon footprints and water use. And L’Oréal was just one beauty major to do so with its ‘For the Future’ 2030 sustainability plan released in June 2020​ that aimed to ensure all plastic packaging was recycled or bio-based; all sites and centres carbon neutral; and 95% of ingredients bio-based, derived from abundant minerals or circular within the decade. Aiming for a climate neutral future​
In January, last year, European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen told attendees at the World Economic Forum 2020 that the European Union would do
“whatever it takes”​ to the unlock investment, innovation and creativity needed to become climate neutral by 2050​.
The EU, Von der Leyen said, was on a mission to become the world’s first climate neutral continent.
This goal was detailed in the EC’s European Green Deal​ – a programme containing a raft of world-reaching measures, guidelines and regulatory reforms aimed at shifting industrial strategies in the EU towards circular business models and clean technologies. And in March 2020, as part of this programme, the EC unveiled its latest Circular Economy Action Plan for Europe​ that precisely detailed the legislative and non-legislative measures that would be taken on circularity in the coming years. ....

Garnier to switch sustainable packaging by 2025
France-based cosmetics company L Oréal has announced that all products under its Garnier brand will be manufactured with either recyclable, degradable or reusable plastic by 2025.

This announcement comes as a part of Garnier’s Green Beauty Initiative which focuses on a holistic approach to sustainability. According to the initiative, the brand will stop using virgin plastics in all its packages and switch to environment-friendly alternatives by 2025.
