The Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) has announced the acquisition of nearly 800 works on paper by the Polish-American artist Theodore Roszak (1907–1981). The works—including 727 drawings, 63 prints, and three photographs—were given by the artist’s daughter, Sara Roszak, on behalf of the artist’s estate; Michael Rosenfeld Gallery facilitated the gift. .- Henry Ward got the inspiration for his new body of work – on display in his big summer solo show ‘Baffle’ – from the gutter. Literally from the gutter. Back in 2017, looking for stimuli to kick start a new series of abstract oil paintings, be decided to make little sculptures from random stuff he found on the ground when he was walking round the streets of London, where he lives. He built up a large collection of “rubber bands, squashed toys, bent nails, bits of plastic, that sort of thing”, and then, on his kitchen table, fashioned them into ingenious little works of art. “Unfortunately, the resulting paintings were rubbish,” he remembers with a smile.
