New Delhi: After the government approved the largest indigenous defence procurement deal worth about Rs 48,000 crores to buy 83 LCA Tejas Mark1A fighter jets, IAF Chief RKS Bhadauria on Thursday (January 14) said that it is a huge step for IAF capability building. 
The IAF chief told ANI, "It is also a big boost to our indigenous industry. It is also a big recognition of our designers. It is a huge step for the Indian Air Force and for the country."

Air Force chief RKS Bhadauria on Thursday said that the latest light combat aircraft Tejas is far better and advanced than the Chinese-Pakistani JF-17 fighter jets, adding that it is well equipped to carry out Balakot-type airstrikes.
In an interaction with ANI, the Air Chief said the 83 indigenous fighter jets to be inducted into the force would also be equipped with homegrown weapons such as the Astra beyond visual range air to air missiles and other standoff weapons.

New Delhi: In a big boost to the Indian Air Force (IAF) and PM Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' initiative, the Cabinet Committee on Security on Wednesday cleared the purchase of 83 Light Combat Aircraft Tejas from the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The Rs 48,000 crore deal will be the biggest ever in the indigenous military aviation sector.
The government will procure 73 LCA Tejas Mk-1A fighter aircraft and 10 LCA Tejas Mk-1 Trainer aircraft. It is the first “Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)” category procurement of combat aircraft with an indigenous content of 50 per cent which will progressively reach 60 per cent by the end of the programme.

New Delhi [India], January 13 (ANI): In a major boost for Make in India in defence, the Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved the largest indigenous defence procurement deal worth about Rs 48,000 crores to buy 83 LCA Tejas Mark1A fighter jets.
The deal to be signed in the next few days with HAL would strengthen the Indian Air Force's fleet of homegrown fighter jet 'LCA-Tejas' and overall combat capability.
"The CCS chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved the largest indigenous defence procurement deal worth about Rs 48000 crores to strengthen IAF's fleet of homegrown fighter jet 'LCA-Tejas'. This deal will be a game-changer for self-reliance in the Indian defence manufacturing," Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted to announce the final approval given to the mega deal.

In a series of tweets, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirming the development said, "The CCS chaired by PM Sh @narendramodi today approved the largest indigenous defence procurement deal worth about 48000 Crores to strengthen IAF’s fleet of homegrown fighter jet ‘LCA-Tejas’. This deal will be a game changer for self reliance in the Indian defence manufacturing."

The Union Cabinet, under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 13 January approved procurement of 73 LCA Tejas Mk-1A fighter aircrafts and 10 LCA Tejas Mk-1 Trainer aircrafts at the cost of Rs 45,696 Crore along with design and development of infrastructure sanctions worth Rs 1,202 crore. The aircraft will be manufactured by defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which will give a further push to Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative and boost indigenisation of defence production and the defence industry in the country.
