COLUMBUS – After battling COVID-19, a proposal from Ohio lawmakers to potentially eliminate health departments that serve smaller cities felt like a gut punch to those still on the front lines of the pandemic.  At least, that's how Beth Bickford, executive director of the Association of Ohio Health Commissioners, sees it. Friends, family, Alliance mark Lingenfelter-Brill store closure Special to The Alliance Review Alliance Mayor Alan Andreani declared April 30 as “Lingenfelter-Brill Day,” marking the closure of the legendary retail shop that operated in the city for 82 years. After about a month of sales of the shop’s final goods, owner Peggy Brill retired upon closure that day. Applause: Newsboys give thanks for grant help in Alliance The Alliance Review I would like to thank Alliance Mayor Alan Andreani, his staff and all who were responsible for awarding the Canton Ex-Newsboys Association the Community Development Block Grant and COVID-19 grant.  As a result of these grants, we were able to provide clothing for 89 students in the city of Alliance at a total cost of $17,408 for this school year.  The financial assistance from these two grants totaling $16,500 helped us fulfill our mission, “That No School Child Shall Miss School for Need of Shoes or Clothing....
