It was a trip on the Luas that helped land a key component on Rachael Lavelle’s debut album. For months, the Dubliner had been thinking that she needed a voice other than her own to recite some of the spoken-word lyrics, but her ideas had started to run dry. Then she was struck by the calm, measured tones of the recorded announcements on the light rail service — “An chéad stad eile, Margadh na Feirme; next stop, Smithfield” — and decided there and then that this was the voice she needed.
