Parents petition state to relax social distancing standards


More than 1,000 parents and others have signed the petition to get students back in school.

HAMPDEN, Maine A group of parents from Hampden are concerned about the negative effects remote learning is having on children. The parents are petitioning state leaders to relax social distancing guidelines in schools. Supporters of this effort say it will make it easier for students around the state to return to full-time in-person learning. 
As a parent, it has been very difficult, said Sarah Newell who has children in the RSU #22 school district. We have seen a decline in [students] academic progress. We have seen issues pop up with their physical and mental health.   ....

Natural gas company announces $90M expansion along the midcoast


Summit Natural Gas of Maine hopes to start serving customers by 2022.

BELFAST, Maine Summit Natural Gas of Maine plans to expand its service into Maine s midcoast. The company announced it would invest $90 million in providing service to Knox and Waldo counties. 
An expansion in the midcoast, Belfast, Camden, Rockport, Rockland, Thomaston is really big for us, said Chance Jackson, external affairs manager for Summit Natural Gas of Maine.  
Summit had originally planned on breaking ground on its main pipeline system for the midcoast project by this Fall, but according to Jackson, that s been delayed until 2022. The company does, however, plan to start small-scale construction before then.  ....

Students at one Maine high school used the pandemic to become even more involved in their performing arts program.

NEWPORT, Maine Lisa and Dean Neal are teachers at Nokomis Regional High in Newport. Together, they teach a theatre production and design class. “Basically we were going to focus on costumes, set, sound, and light design,” said Lisa Neal.
