Local area leaders speak at State of the Community luncheon

The Graham Chamber of Commerce hosted its first State of the Community luncheon last week and gathered representatives from local taxing entities to provide updates regarding current and upcoming projects, accomplishments and goals. The event was hosted Tuesday, March 19 as one of the chamber’s quarterly luncheons at North Central Texas College. Candidates file for Young County elections in May

The candidate filing deadline for a place on the general election ballot in May ended last week across the state with local candidates filing for positions open in Young County. The filing period for political subdivision seats up for election in May was open from Wednesday, Jan. 17 through Friday, Feb. 16. The election will take place Saturday, May 4 at polling locations around Young County. Early voting in the election will run from Monday, April 22 through Tuesday, April 30. The filing period in Young County opens tomorrow for political subdivision seats up for election in May. City council and school board positions in Graham, Olney and Newcastle are up for election with applications available at each individual entity. The filing period opened Wednesday, Jan. 17 across the state. Applications to file can be submitted to local political subdivisions through Friday, Feb. 16. 5-year-old injured on new Firemen's Park playground

An accident last week at Firemen’s Park sent a 5-year-old Throckmorton girl to the hospital, after her fingers were caught in a new piece of playground equipment. Local first responders were dispatched to Firemen’s Park shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, following a report of a child having her fingers trapped in a piece of playground equipment. When officers from Graham Police Department arrived at the park, they observed a crowd of people around the “merry-go-round,” as well as an off-duty Graham EMS employee, who was attempting to calm the child. ....
